Dancing the Parenting documentary premiere screening!

Dancing the Parenting, Process and Testimonies is a 10 min documentary on the creative process of a group of parents and their children aged 0-4 years old dedicated to dance and performance led by choreographer Julie Lebel.

The documentary was filmed and edited by Brian Lye and will be shown at this event for the first time.

Friday September 25 2015 from 5:30-7pm (showing from 6 to 6:10pm).
Creekside Community and Recreation Centre, multi-purpose room nb 4

Free (donations welcomed).

Embody (In My Body), Dancing the Early Years is a conference unpacking four years of dance research with a community of children and parents, through Reggio Emilia principles, embodied learning, and connecting art and parenthood.

Location: The Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre : 181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver.

Conference + Performance: January 17, 2015 from 9:30-am-3:30pm $40/$30 Early Bird (December 15).

Register at 604-713-1800.

Certificate of completions will be available for early childhood educators.

Performance only: January 17, 2015, 11am. $10/$5 students and seniors, Free 5yrs and under.

Keynote: Patricia Reedy, Director of Teaching and Learning at the Luna Dance Institute (Oakland, CA).

Speakers include: Julie Lebel, Elizabeth Mackenzie and Susan Hoppenfeld.

Performance by the Foolish Operations Ensemble / Dancing the Parenting, musicians Mark Haney, Mark Beaty and Rachael Wadham, and dancers Meredith Kalaman and Anne Cooper. The creative team includes video artist Brian Lye, rehearsal director Caroline Liffmann, costume designer Diane Park and stage manager Kristina Lemieux.

This event is made possible with the financial support of the BC Arts Council and the Roundhouse Community Association as well as the in kind support of Creekside Community Recreation Centre, Trout Lake Community Centre, the Karen and Gary Simkin Family Child Development Centre and the Opus Hotel in Yaletown. We are very grateful for the support.

We are performing Monday February 10 @ Trout Lake Community Centre, in the Martial Arts Room (Elm Room), at 11:30am.

Mark Haney will be playing his fabulous music on the double base. We also have the pleasure to have Anne Cooper dancing with us.

Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting a great family day celebration on February 10. Come for our performance and enjoy the rest of the day at Trout Lake. It’s free. We’d love to see you there.

Trout Lake Community Centre is located at 3360 Victoria Drive, in Vancouver.

Dancing the Parenting, intro workshops

Dancing the Parenting is now offered in a class format! Register now if interested. I will teach in January both at Creekside and Trout Lake Community Centres.
Trout Lake (Wednesdays 9:30-10:15am)
Creekside (Fridays 9:15 to 10:00am)

The Tuesday group (Foolish Operations Ensemble) at Creekside is still open for new people to join and the focus of this group is to practice towards performance. If interested, email me!

Performance at Trout Lake Day

June 23rd at 3:30pm just east of the new Trout Lake Community Centre’s playground. Free!

Consider coming to Trout Lake Day to witness our latest work. We will be performing a 20 minute piece along many other great performances and events. After two years of steady practice, our ensemble of parents and children is excited to show what we’ve been working on: contact improvisation, ensemble improvisation, patience, listening, joy, play… For more information or videos about the Foolish Operations Ensemble and Dancing the Parenting click here.

  • Music by double bassist Mark Haney.
  • A dance score by Julie Lebel with the input of all participants.
  • Performance by Erin Robertson and Isabelle, Nissa Howard, Peggy Leung, Julie Lebel with June and Léonie, Madoka Hara and Cosmo, Michele Andersen with Aden and Mateo, Janet Walker, Steve with Martine and Philippe, Anne Cooper and Meredtih Kalaman.

  • public members needed for dress rehearsal on Saturday June 22 from 10 to 11 am;
