Dancing the Parenting intro classes at Trout Lake Fall 2015

This program welcomes families who would like to try relationship based dancing with their children (0-4). The class includes creative exploration of developmental movement patterning and engages parents into their own dancing just as much as the children. The class is in the martial arts studio, it offers a secure environment for movement exploration.

Wednesdays Sep 16 to Oct 21, 2015 from  9:30am to 10:15am in the Elm Room.

Come with comfortable clothes to move. Children come as they are!

Dancing the Parenting documentary premiere screening!

Dancing the Parenting, Process and Testimonies is a 10 min documentary on the creative process of a group of parents and their children aged 0-4 years old dedicated to dance and performance led by choreographer Julie Lebel.

The documentary was filmed and edited by Brian Lye and will be shown at this event for the first time.

Friday September 25 2015 from 5:30-7pm (showing from 6 to 6:10pm).
Creekside Community and Recreation Centre, multi-purpose room nb 4
1 Athletes Way, Vancouver, BC (map)
Free (donations welcomed).

Embody / In My Body


Embody (In My Body), Dancing the Early Years is a conference unpacking four years of dance research with a community of children and parents, through Reggio Emilia principles, embodied learning, and connecting art and parenthood.

Location: The Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre : 181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver.

Conference + Performance: January 17, 2015 from 9:30-am-3:30pm $40/$30 Early Bird (December 15).

Register at 604-713-1800.

Certificate of completions will be available for early childhood educators.

Performance only: January 17, 2015, 11am. $10/$5 students and seniors, Free 5yrs and under.

Keynote: Patricia Reedy, Director of Teaching and Learning at the Luna Dance Institute (Oakland, CA).

Speakers include: Julie Lebel, Elizabeth Mackenzie and Susan Hoppenfeld.

Performance by the Foolish Operations Ensemble / Dancing the Parenting, musicians Mark Haney, Mark Beaty and Rachael Wadham, and dancers Meredith Kalaman and Anne Cooper. The creative team includes video artist Brian Lye, rehearsal director Caroline Liffmann, costume designer Diane Park and stage manager Kristina Lemieux.

This event is made possible with the financial support of the BC Arts Council and the Roundhouse Community Association as well as the in kind support of Creekside Community Recreation Centre, Trout Lake Community Centre, the Karen and Gary Simkin Family Child Development Centre and the Opus Hotel in Yaletown. We are very grateful for the support.
